The DR221 is an evolution of the DR220 (DR. are the initial of Jean Délémontez and Pierre Robin). The various models vary especially by the motorization, the cabin being identical. Not very powerful models (about 120 ch) are called “2+2” (2 adults and 2 children (or 3 adults). The design of this plane is old, it have a timber structure cloth-lined with low V wing. Low wing allows to have an excellent visibility and it uses the very characteristic Jodel type with its dihedrons. It has a classic landing-gear. This aircraft is still currently very present in the majority of the French flying-clubs.
